2020 the government has been destroyed due to exposed secrets and differences in power. Many state laws have been ignored and abolished. Political leaders have been killed, buildings are over occupied, yet a minority of states remain untouched and in order. They, Noir, hunt anarchists and make them part of their societies.
Lorelei and Jason lead their group under the bridge to sleep for the night.
Jason [Playing music softly]: If your glass is half full drink up, drink up! This may be the last time you see this cup! If god wanted a soda he’d knock the glass over! So while it is full drink up!
Lorelei: How much begging do I need to do to get the men to stop drinking? We’re moving before the sun comes up. Hung-over men aren’t the greatest walkers.
Christopher: Go to sleep, I got it. I’ll have them up by five.
[Chris moves left towards men]
In the morning the group gets prepared for travel.
Lorelei [Walking near the trees]: Let’s go. I mean it, get up! Do you know how many stranded groups Noir is hunting? Ten groups. We are the only group in Massachusetts that’s still unfound. If we get caught then they’d make us to all the dirty work for their societies. What do they think we are doing? Why are we the threat? Sure, we’re unconstitutional, structureless, but we’re also harmless! Think back, when alcohol was legalized it increased gang violence. When cannabis was legalized it minimized violence in the drug war. When gay marriage was legalized people were happy. Give the people absolute freedom? Again, increase in violence, no more battles for power, and we’re no longer under the control on incompetent leaders. The more we move over to the next state or border they’ll leave us alone. Get up and get moving boys. Keep your hopes up high and your head down low.
[In the middle of the forest, the group continues walking. Jason decides to walk on the front with his niece]
Jason: You know, darling, I can lead if it gets to be too much for you. I mean, you can stay behind and make sure Forest is well; he’s getting a cold. Or, if you want you can keep Christopher company. He likes you, that boy.
Lorelei: I’m fine thanks Uncle, but you know I can take care of myself. And Christopher? I don’t know what makes you say that but I think you’re crazy.
[Both laugh]
Jason: That I may be, but, with an accordion? I am a genius! I appreciate your independence but you’ve got to put your trust in people sometimes, Kiddo.
Lorelei: Well genius, mission’s all yours. Our next stop is six miles north near the river.
[Lorelei has moved over to check up on the men]
Lorelei: What’s the verdict?
Forest: Best beer I ever drank!
[All the men begin to laugh and Christopher enters to the center.]
Christopher: The men are fine Lor. Forest is sick though, I might have to keep an eye on him. All of us has eaten and drank. Water.
Lorelei: Good, thank you. Without any girls around I find myself over-thinking more than I’d like.
Christopher: If you need anyone to talk to I’m here. I guess you can think of me as a girl with a low voice and a-
[She interrupts before he can finish.]
Lorelei: And thank you, again. I’d rather not think about you as a girl. The first think that came to my mind was you dressed as Madonna.
Christopher: Tell me, was I pretty as Madonna?
Lorelei [Turning her head down.]: You were pretty.
Christopher: Well, you’re beautiful Lor.
Lorelei [taking it jokingly]: You’re a really bad liar. Bye Chris.
[She walks over to Forest who’s coughing. Chris starts to song “Don’t go breaking my heart]
Forest: Well, hello miss. How are you this brilliant and radiant morning?
Lorelei: I’m fine. And you?
Forest: Don’t like the cold too much and I found some blood on my napkin when I coughed. Could be nothing’ or could be something’.
Lorelei: We’re only four miles away now, and it’s only going to get colder up north. Do you think you can handle it? We could move west and find a hotel if you’d like?
Forest: No, I insist we continue our journey.
[Both hear rustling in the trees]
Lorelei: Do you think they’d give up by now? I don’t want to be apart of a society. The people with power and the people with money are just going to look down upon us like we should’ve worked harder to fit it.
Forest: Yep, well that’s how it is down there and that’s how it’s going to be if we don’t continue.
[At the river setting up tents]
Christopher: Where’s your blanket?
Lorelei: Gave it to Forest. I have about three jackets so I should be fine. We should be up by five again tomorrow. Our last stop is only four more miles. We’re going to Depardieu Boulevard.
Christopher [Wraps his coat around her]: Here’s my coat, you are going to thank me in the morning when the snow falls.
Lorelei: That’s real sweet. Have you seen anything. I thought I saw someone by the river earlier. I didn’t recognize them.
Christopher: Whatever it is I’ll be on lookout. Nothing will get to you.
Lorelei: Don’t make promises.
Christopher [Leaning towards Lorelei’s face.]: Don’t assume everyone is a liar.
[Jason walks in with his accordion singing a love song.]
Jason [Chris shyly leaves the tent]: Whoa, hey Kiddo! Did I interrupt anything?
Lorelei: Oh nothing at all, nope.
Jason: Well, as long as nobodies on drugs or pregnant it’s fine by me. Don’t mind me I’m just doing my job.
Lorelei [Laughing]: You are an obscure man!
[Everyone wakes up to find Forest dead]
Christopher: He was killed, down by the river, I found him when I went down there this morning!
[More movement in the trees. Four men appear.]
Lorelei: Run! Leave everything! Go!
Christopher [Carrying Forest’s dead body]: Hold on!
[For miles they all ran. Till Jason pulls out a gun]
Jason: [Shoots] This isn’t freedom! We shouldn’t be forced to live in your world.
Christopher [Preparing for an open fire he runs behind Lorelei to shield her]: We have less than a mile left keep moving! Jason put down the gun they’re unarmed!
[They enter a walkway through a street. Depardieu Boulevard was painted on a brick wall in big, black letters. The four men stop chasing them.]
Jason: My Buddha, this place is beautiful isn’t it? The vacant houses have red tape on the door so go get settled. We’ll all walk down to the cemetery and hold a proper funeral boys!
[The men and Lorelei roared and held their hands up high.]
Jason: As for you, Lor. This has been the most positive even in my life. I want to let you know how proud I am of you.
Lorelei: We needed to be here. This is where we are untouchable. This is our home. Our form of a messiah. The hunt is over boys, welcome home.
Christopher [Laying Forest on the ground]: Welcome home Forest.
